Weslaco 100 Grant
The Weslaco 100 Grant is designed to assist small businesses with code-related improvements, enhancing the attractiveness and viability of the downtown district for retail, commercial, and office operations. Two-story buildings are considered as two separate buildings for grant purposes.
Who Can Apply?
Eligible Areas
- Central Business District / Main Street
- Texas Blvd. from Pike Blvd. to 12th Street
- Missouri Ave. and Kansas Ave. from 1st Street to 6th Street
Exclusions
City-owned properties, banks, national chain retail/restaurants, and residential properties.
What the Grant Covers
Grants of up to $25,000 per floor support significant improvements and building code compliance, plus facilitating additional public parking where needed.
Life & safety code updates
Electrical and plumbing systems
Elevators / escalators
Roofs and ceilings
Demolition for environmental mitigation
Grease traps
$25,000 Maximum per floor, 50:50 matching basis
Important Details
- Pre-approval by EDCW is required for all improvements.
- Once the maximum grant amount is reached, the property is no longer eligible for additional funding.
- A 5-year lien is placed on properties receiving grants of $10,000 or more.
How to Apply
- 01 Contact EDCW at 956-969-0838 to check fund availability.
- 02 Submit the Grant Application to the EDCW office in person or via email.
- 03 Applications must be submitted two weeks before the monthly Board of Directors meeting.
- 04 Approval must be obtained before any construction begins.
- 05 Provide three itemized quotes (one must be from a Weslaco-based contractor).
- 06 Submit before and after photos of the proposed and completed work.
